2011 Male U16 Rosters Announced for Provincial Camp

Press Release

BC Hockey announced May 25, 2011 the 71 players selected to attend the 2011 Male Under 16 Provincial Camp being held in Penticton, BC from June 30 – July 4, 2011.

Selections for the Provincial Camp were made based on player’s performances at the U16 BC Cup that was held in Kamloops, BC from April 27 – May 1, 2011.

Attending the Male U16 Provincial Camp is the next step of the U16 High Performance process for players competing for a spot on Team BC. Athletes attending this next step of the High Performance Program are considered to be among the top players in this age category in the province.

The focus of the five day Provincial Camp is two-fold.  First, the camp will continue to introduce high performance athletes to the most up to date information and concepts as they relate to both National and International levels of hockey. Second, 30-32 players will be selected for the U16 Team BC short list, and will be evaluated during club team play until early October, 2011.

The 20 players selected to Team BC from the short list will compete at the inaugural Western Branch Challenge from October 28-31, 2011 in Saskatchewan. The host city has not yet been officially determined.

The BC Hockey High Performance Under 16 Program is designed as an introduction to BC Hockey’s High Performance Program, exposing players, coaches and officials to short term competition. The U16 Program also acts as a precursor to the BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program, which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for Provincial, Regional and National Teams.
