BCHL establishes new mark for scholarships attained in one season

Press Release

It's a record that didn't stand for very long.

The mark of 112 scholarships received by British Columbia Hockey League players each of the last two season has been shattered this year.

This week when the Merritt Centennials announced the commitment of defenceman and captain Steve Tresierra to Queen's University of Canadian Interuniversity Sport, it pushed the league over the previous standard.

"Colleges in Canada and the United States increasingly look to our league as our teams and coaches continue to provide them with outstanding young men who are ready for the next level," said BCHL commissioner John Grisdale. "I'm thrilled so many of our players are getting a chance to continue their hockey careers while receiving an education."

More announcements are coming in to the BCHL office each week so continue to check the league website for news.
