Charlie Skjodt Named Indiana Ice President

Press Release

The Indiana Ice is proud to announce the promotion Charlie Skjodt to President of the hockey club. He had served as the team's GM and Head Coach during the 2010-11 season. He will also continue his role as Alternate Governor, along with overseeing both the hockey and business operations.

Skjodt has been a fixture in Indianapolis for over 35 years as a player, coach and general manager.

"I truly enjoyed the experience this year," said Skjodt. "Though we did not reach our ultimate goal, we certainly were proud of our accomplishments throughout the year. Individual and team records were established and being a developmental league, we feel strongly that our players will go off to college prepared and ready to take it to the next level. I also want to thank my associate head coach Brad Lutsch and the training staff for their outstanding effort and dedication."

Skjodt leaves the head coaching post with a career USHL record of 76-34-10 and a 9-7 mark in the playoffs. He led the Ice to a final four playoff appearance during the 2006-07 season and an East Division Championship in 2007-08. This year's club set team best marks for top all-time road record (18-10-2) and longest road winning streak (nine games).

The veteran bench boss has coached and helped develop many great players in the "Circle City" including current Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson, 2011 USHL Player of the Year Blake Coleman, and 2011 USHL Defenseman of the Year Nick Mattson.

"My goal is to focus all my energy and experience to the Ice while also working on a long range plan for our organization," said Skjodt. "My immediate attention will be to solidify the coaching staff and then expand into other areas of the team. Ultimately I want to create greater hockey awareness by getting more kids involved and participating in the world's greatest sport along with building a broader fan base to help support our loyal hockey fans and corporate partners."
