Halifax Mooseheads name Dominique Ducharme Head Coach

The Halifax Mooseheads announced Dominique Ducharme as their new head coach at a press conference today at the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. A native of Joliette, Quebec, Ducharme is the 8th coach in Mooseheads history.

Ducharme, 38, spent the past three seasons as an Assistant Coach with the QMJHL’s Montreal Junior under Pascal Vincent. Prior to his tenure with the Junior, he was head coach of Joliette Action in the Quebec Jr AAA Hockey League from 2004 to 2008. With the Action, Ducharme compiled an impressive record of 149-43-4-7 winning two league titles, along with the Fred Page Cup in 2006. While in Joliette he was named coach of the year in 2008 after being a finalist for the award the 3 previous seasons. Furthermore, Ducharme was an assistant from 2002 to 2004 with UQTR Patriotes, winning a CIS Championship in 2003.

Ducharme is the head coach of Team Quebec for the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge this coming December in Winnipeg. He was as an associate coach with the same program last year on a team which starred current Mooseheads Luca Ciampini and Simon Desmarais.

Ducharme played NCAA Division 1 hockey with the University of Vermont Catamounts between 1991 and 1995 recording 149 points in 130 games. He followed up his career at Vermont with 7 years of professional hockey spent mainly in the French Professional Leagues.

The Halifax Mooseheads would like to welcome Dominique and the Ducharme family to their organization and to the city of the Halifax.
