Press Release
INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Ice announced today that the team has acquired defenseman R.J. Boyd from the Chicago Steel in exchange for affiliate goaltender Colin Stevens, who played last year for the Boston Jr. Bruins of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
The 6-3 blueliner split time this past season between Sacred Heart University (Atlantic Hockey Association) and Chicago. He appeared in 15 games with the Pioneers, before finishing the 10-11 campaign by playing in 33 games with the Steel.
“Boyd is a player we would have originally liked to have drafted out of Cushing Academy, but ended up going to Sacred Heart,” said Brad Lutsch, VP of Player Personnel. “We’ve kept tracking him and are very happy to have acquired him in this trade and are very excited for him to be a part of our ‘D-corps’ next year.”
The Ft. Myers, FL native was a seventh round pick by the Florida Panthers in the 2010 NHL Draft. He previously attended Cushing Academy in Massachusetts, which is one of the top prep hockey programs in the United States and has produced several NHL’ers including Phoenix Coyotes all-star defenseman Keith Yandle.
