Ice D-man Russo Commits to Penn State University

The Indiana Ice announced that defenseman Brandon Russo has committed to play college hockey at Penn State University. He becomes the first USHL player to commit to Penn State which begins play as a NCAA Division I program beginning with the 2012-13 season.

Russo played 51 games during his first USHL season in 2010-11 and collected 24 points (2g, 22a) while also posting a plus-10 rating. He played 14 games with the Youngstown Phantoms before being acquired by the Indiana Ice. During a six-game win streak for the Ice from March 11th to March 25th, he collected three assists and posted a plus-10 rating and helped the Ice limit their opponents to just five total goals during that stretch. Russo, 19, is a native of Fairfield, Connecticut.

Penn State University will have a NCAA Division I hockey program that will begin competition in the 2012-13 season and will be part of a newly-formed Big Ten Conference for hockey.

Russo is the 16th member of the Indiana Ice from the 2010-11 season that has committed to Division I hockey program.
