MJHL Bantam draft goes June 5

Press Release

The MJHL Bantam Draft (players in their 15th year) will take place in Russell on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Russell Inn & Conference Centre.

“This is a very exciting time for the players, their families and of course the teams which are participating,” MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis said today. “Many of these drafts in June will be stars in our league in a few years. The draft is an opportunity for teams to build in areas they feel need improving. For the players, it’s an opportunity to showcase their talents at a higher level.”

This year’s draft will be broadcast live by BIG FM, with host Ray Walker and guests calling the action.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the MJHL’s draft day,” said Walker. “Tens of thousands of MJHL fans will now be able to follow the action selection by selection.”

The rules of the MJHL Draft have changed this past year and will be implemented as follows:

1. One week prior to the Draft each MJHL club will be allowed to identify and protect two (2) draft eligible players from within the team’s protected zone. These automatically protected players (a maximum of 22 – 11 teams x 2 players) are not eligible to be selected by other teams in the Draft. Instead, these players will be added to their respective MJHL team’s protected list as P List players.

2. The Draft will consist of six rounds with the order of selection based on the placement of each team in the final standings for the 2010-2011 season. The lower the spot in the standings, the higher the pick in the Draft.

3. When the Draft is completed a total of 88 players may be selected if all clubs exercise all of their selections. 22 players will be automatically protected selections and 66 players will be draft selections.

4. Sometimes draft pick selections are traded between member clubs in the League. If this occurs it may alter the order of selection in the Draft for some rounds.

5. As of this writing (May 10) the order of selection by round for the Draft is shown below. The actual order of selection could change prior to or on the day of the Draft and will be updated as required.

6. The results of the Draft will be available on the MJHL website (www.mjhlhockey.ca) on the day of the Draft (June 5, 2011).
