Orientation Camp – Day Two Recap

The intensity was kicked up a notch on Saturday at the Generals Orientation Camp as players sensed it was their last chance to make a big impression and hopefully earn an invitation to Generals main camp. Team Red was able to pull off the sweep, winning both scrimmages at the Camp with a 6-2 victory Saturday morning.

The game started off with a different tone then yesterday’s first contest with players finishing their checks and making smart plays to make sure they didn’t cost their team.

But that didn’t mean there wasn’t some offense as 6th round pick Evan Buehler was there for the tap in after a beautiful shot from the point opened the scoring 15 minutes into the opening period giving Team Red the 1-0 lead after one. Free agent Brock Crosswaite posted a shutout in his period for Team Red while 15th round pick Austin Washkurak was solid allowing just one goal for Team White.

Free agent Kane Elliott out of Milton Jr. A scored on a nice shot from the slot with assists from draft picks Jacob Hand and Bradley Latour.

After getting robbed on a wrap-around chance free agent Roger Sherwood wouldn’t be denied as he potted a breakaway chance minutes later to get Team White back in the game.

The one goal lead didn’t last long as 4th round pick scored a pair of beautiful goals to give Team Red a big lead. The first was on a great pass from free agent Kane Elliott out of the corner and the second was a great shot in off the post from the slot.

Team Red continued to pour on the pressure and scored again on a shot from free agent defenceman Andrew Tessier giving Team Red the 5-1 lead after two periods. 2nd round pick Ken Appleby was between the pipes for Team Red while free agent John Nixon was in net for Team White.

The third period was much like the first period with Team Red shutting down Team White to close out the game. Team Red’s only goal was by Mark Petaccio with his 4th of the camp on a pass from Scott Laughton. Team White added one late goal by 13th round pick Pat Hamilton but it was too little too late. Former 6th round pick Justin Tugwell shut the door for Team Red while 10th rounder Bo Bessette was solid in his period of work.
