PEI ROCKET ANNOUNCE GORDIE DWYER AS NEW HEAD COACH

At a media conference this afternoon, the PEI Rocket officially announced that Gordie Dwyer has been named the new Head Coach for the PEI Rocket. Serge Savard Jr. said “We targeted Gordie to be our new head coach and feel he is the right person to lead our team at the present time. He is very passionate about hockey and we are excited to have him as part of the Rocket family”.

In 2009-2010, Gordie was named Head Coach and Associate Director of Hockey Operations of the Summerside Western Capitals. During the season, he lead a rebuilding team to a triumphant 4th place overall finish and a 7 game playoff upset before bowing out in the league Semi-finals to the eventual League Champions.

In 2010-2011, Gordie returned as Head Coach and Associate Director of Hockey Operations of the Summerside Western Capitals leading the team to a very successful 36-12-1-3 record finishing in 2nd place of the 11 team league. Under Dwyer’s guidance, the team went on to capture the KENT CUP MHL Championship with a 12-3 playoff record on the strengths of a 4-0 game sweep in the first round, a dramatic 7th game come-from-behind win in the Semi-finals, followed by a 4-0 sweep in the league finals.

I look forward to opportunity of leading the Island's Major Junior franchise while developing our young talent and connecting with our community."

In 2 seasons with the Capitals, Gordie had a combined record of 80-42-2-5. He was recently named to the Top 40 Under 40 by The Hockey News. Gordie currently resides in Seaview, PEI, with his wife Louise and 3 boys Jack (6), Ryan (4) and Sean (1).
