Pre-Draft Tryout Camp Under Way In Hazel Park

Press Release

PORT HURON, MI – The Port Huron Fighting Falcons began their first tryout camp of the off-season Friday in Hazel Park, as nearly 70 players look to earn the attention of coaches and scouts before the 2011 NAHL Draft May 26.

While the majority of the players competing at camp come from the greater Detroit area, some traveled from as far as Sweden and Russia in hopes to play Junior hockey in the United States.

Held at Hazel Park Ice Arena, the Fighting Falcons’ coaching and scouting staff will evaluate players through practices and scrimmages, as well as off-ice training and testing through 5-Star Hockey.

The pre-draft camp will allow the Fighting Falcons to make informed decisions in the upcoming draft as they build their roster for the 2011-12 season. The team was not able to participate in last season’s NAHL Draft, as they had not yet been granted membership to the league.

A full off-season of preparation will allow the team to hold a second open camp June 17-19 in Hazel Park before players from the 2010-11 team return to the ice in the main camp.

An all-star game featuring the best players from each of the four teams at the pre-draft camp will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission to the game is free of charge at the rink located at 1555 East Woodward Heights Boulevard in Hazel Park.

Registration for the June camp is open now, with registration packets available at www.phfightingfalcons.com.

The Fighting Falcons are in the midst of a sale on season ticket packages throughout the month of May. Full-season ticket packages in any section of the arena will be available for $140, a $10 discount off the regular price of $150. This represents a savings of over $75 off last season’s Center Ice pricing.

For more information on tryout camps or ticket pricing, call the Fighting Falcons office at (810) 966-3800, or send an e-mail to Mike Reed at mike@phfightingfalcons.com.
