Team White wins Top Prospects Tournament

Team White was crowned champions of the North American Prospects Hockey League (PHL) Top Prospects Tournament after its 2-0 win over Team Black in the championship game on Sunday at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kan.

Goaltenders Alex Palumbo (12 saves) and Chris Komma (22) combined for the shutout in Team White’s victory, and forwards Josh Twietmeyer (game-winner) and Crif Burkemper supplied the goals.

In the consolation game, Team Red doubled up Team Green, 4-2. Forwards Brett Oldaker and Heinz Koster (game-winner) each picked up a goal and an assist in the win, and goaltenders Tyler Stepke (15 saves on seven shots) and Tom Condon (eight saves) combined to stop 23 shots.

Team Black (four points) and Team White (four) advanced to the championship game after finishing the three-game round-robin portion of the event as the top two teams. Team Green also ended the round robin with four points but finished third in the tiebreaker, and Team Red finished with two points.

The tournament was played in conjunction with the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Robertson Cup Championship Tournament, which was held from May 3-7 at the Kansas Expocentre and won by the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
