Decision on hits to the head

Press Release

During a special meeting at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Annual Session the governors, owners, and head coaches all agreed that certain measures must be taken in order to eliminate hits to the head and other dangerous hits.

It was agreed that the severity of suspensions in terms of number of games resulting from a hit to the head would be increased.

Even though this increase will be used to penalize players much greater emphasis will be placed on education. Trainers and team officials will also be educated on gestures which will not be tolerated.

Training tools will be developed through video and exhibition games used for trial runs while making sure that the new QMJHL procedures are understood.
