HOUNDS ACQUIRE SCHWINDT AND PICKS

Press Release

Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Dubas completed a trade this afternoon with the Eastern Conference’s Niagara IceDogs.

In the deal the Hounds sent 19-year old defenseman BROCK BEUKEBOOM to the IceDogs in exchange for 19-year old defenseman MIKE SCHWINDT, Oshawa’s 2nd Round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Barrie’s 2nd Round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection (conditional) and Niagara’s 5th Round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection (conditional).

“As an organization we wish Brock and the Beukeboom Family nothing but the best of luck in their future endeavors. After tremendous amount of review, thought and conversation with Brock and his agent Ian Pulver we have decided that moving Brock and giving him a fresh start would ultimately be the best for his development as a hockey player and more importantly as a person. Brock has been a model citizen and represented our organization extremely well in the community and will be a tremendous asset to the Niagara IceDogs and the City of St. Catharine’s” stated in Dubas.

Beukeboom finished the 2010-11 season, his third as a Greyhound, by missing the final 18 games of the regular season with a concussion.

As for the newest member of the Hounds, Schwindt will be entering his 4th season in the Ontario Hockey League in 2011-12.

The native of Mount Forest ONTARIO stands 6’4” while weighing in at 215 lbs. In 68 games played during the past season, Schwindt had 11 assists to go along with an impressive +22 rating.

“Mike is a big, defensive defenseman who skates and moves the puck extremely well. We had targeted Mike since the day I was named General Manager of the team. Mike would be most comparable to a defenseman like Tyler Cuthbert, but his skating and ability with the puck are superior to Tyler’s. We believe that Mike will bring a veteran and stabilizing presence to our young, but talented, defense core” concluded Dubas.
