Hounds finalize Hockey Operations Staff for 2011-12

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas announced this afternoon the team’s Hockey Operations staff for the upcoming 2011-12 Ontario Hockey League season.

Joining Head Coach MIKE STAPLETON and completing the team’s coaching staff will be Assistant’s NICK WARRINER, SEAMUS KOTYK, and MIKE OLIVERIO.
Warriner, a native of Blenheim, ON returns for his fourth season with the Hounds while Kotyk, who joined the team for the 2010-11 season, finds himself promoted into an Assistant Coaching position while he will continue his duties as Goaltending Coach with the organization as well.
MIKE OLIVERIO, joins the organization after spending 14 seasons as a Scout with the Plymouth Whalers (OHL). The Sault Ste. Marie, ON product played five seasons with the Hounds spanning the 1983-84 to 1987-88 seasons. During that time Oliverio was captain of the team during the 1985/86 and 1986/87 seasons. To-date, he remains among the top in the Soo Greyhounds history books with Most Career Games Played (314), 3rd Most Career Points (389), 2nd Most Career Goals (154) and 3rd Most Career Assists (235).
A 7th Round pick of the NHL’s Quebec Nordiques, Oliverio went on to play 5 years of professional hockey overseas in England, Sweden and Italy.

“I’m excited for the challenge. I just want to thank Kyle Dubas, Mike Stapleton and the Soo Greyhounds organization for this opportunity. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and being part of “The Rising” stated Oliverio.

In addition, the Hounds have also completed a full evaluation of the team’s Scouting Operations. As a result, the Club has retained MIKE MACFARLANE (Director of Scouting), JOHN MCGARR (SCTA Area Scout), VICTOR CARNEIRO (GTHL Area Scout) and NICK DELLA PENTA (Northern Ontario / Northern Michigan Area Scout).
Joining the organization for the 2011-12 season is TERRY MACFARLANE (U.S. Area Scout) and CHRIS ROQUE (Central Ontario Area Scout)

MacFarlane joins the Hounds with 31 years of scouting experience. The native of Chatham, ON has previous work within the OHL and East Coast Hockey League while most recently was a member of the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League.

“It’s gratifying for me to be able to come back into the OHL and to be able to work with an organization like the Soo Greyhounds. I’m very proud to be part of it and excited for the upcoming season” mentioned MacFarlane.

Roque joins the Hounds after serving as the Northern Scout with the Kingston Frontenac’s (OHL) for the past 5 seasons.

“I’m honoured to be joining a team like the Soo Greyhounds. Kyle is an up-and-coming OHL General Manager. He’s a smart and hard-working individual who will do great things for this team and it’s exciting to be a part of it” commented Roque.
