Hounds made trio of deals

Press Release

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas announced a trio of transactions this afternoon as the Ontario Hockey League trade period resumed.

"We are very pleased today to add COREY DUROCHER and BRANDON ALDERSON to The Rising" began Dubas.

In the first deal, LW Justin Thomas and a 3rd Round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection were sent to the Sarnia Sting in exchange for RW BRANDON ALDERSON along with a 5th Round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, a conditional 3rd Round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection and a conditional 4th Round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.

"Brandon is a large bodied RW with elite character who we feel has not come close to reaching his full potential. He played through a bad wrist injury this past season and we feel that at full health next season he can give himself a chance to be a pro" commented Dubas.

Alderson (D.O.B. 01-22-1992), an Oakville, ON native is coming off his second season in the OHL. After ending his rookie campaign with 24 points, he ended 2010-11 with 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points. He stands 6'4" while weighing in at 195 lbs.

Thomas, originally the Hounds 4th Round pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, appeared in just 11 games during the 2010/11 season before being sidelined with a season-ending shoulder injury.

The second deal of the afternoon saw the Hounds send Kingston's 2nd round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection back to the Frontenacs in exchange for 19-year old leftwinger COREY DUROCHER.
Durocher, who stands 6'3" and weights 183 lbs, will be entering his 3rd season in the OHL. During the 2010-11 season, the Ottawa, ON native grabbed 14 goals and 23 assists, good for 37 points in 63 games played.

Durocher was the Florida Panther's 6th Round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

"Corey is a player we as a staff keyed in on early on. He's a big kid, with a lot of upside. He was excellent at Florida's training camp this season and we feel that with a fresh start here we can help him reach his potential" stated Dubas.

And the final transaction of the day saw the Hounds send Zachary Aston-Reese, the Hounds' 14th Round pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection, sent to the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for a 15th Round Pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection and a conditional 3rd Round Pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.
