Jared Gilbert Commits to Rangers

Press Release

Maine Hockey Journal

Kitchener Rangers Head Coach and General Manager Steve Spott has announced that the team has signed defenceman Jared Gilbert to an Ontario Hockey League contract.

"We are pleased that Jared has elected to play in Kitchener and the Ontario Hockey League," Spott said. "He had several options available to him and we look forward to assisting with his dream of playing in the National Hockey League while maintaining his academic standards."

Selected in the third round of the 2011 OHL Priority Selection, Gilbert spent last season with the Toronto Marlboros where he accumulated 7 goals and 46 assists in 70 games. His strong play helped the Marlboros capture the 2011 OHL Cup.

"Jared is a very reliable puck-moving defenceman," Rangers Head Scout Murray Hiebert commented. "He has excellent vision and hockey sense that he uses to gain possession of the puck and begin the rush."

Jared is eager to begin his career with the Rangers.

"Looking at some of the names that have played here, I'm excited to be a part of the tradition," Gilbert expressed.

Rangers' training camp opens on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
