KYLE WALLACK NAMED HEAD COACH OF ICE

Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Indiana Ice is proud to announce the hiring of Kyle Wallack to the position of general manager and head coach through the 2013/2014 season.

Wallack makes the move from the East Coast where he held the role of associate head coach and top recruiter the last five seasons for the Yale Bulldogs of the ECAC.

He leaves a Yale program that set the school record for wins (28) last year and became the first Bulldog team to be voted number one in the national polls for two straight months. Overall, the 2010-11 edition finished the year with the top offense, defense and winning percentage in Division 1 hockey. The Bulldogs made the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season falling in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Minnesota Duluth.

“We feel we have the right fit in Kyle,” said Ice President Charlie Skjodt. “Today’s game is built on speed and we searched for the right coach who will take advantage of our larger ice surface at Pepsi Coliseum. If you watched Yale last year, their success was built around the endless pursuit of the puck and a high octane offense. That game is something the players love, our fans expect and a recipe for success. We are very confident the team will be in great hands this year and it will be no surprise to see Kyle put us in position for another run at the Clark Cup.”

During his five-year stint at Yale, the team went 100-56-13 which included three NCAA Tournament appearances, two straight regional finals, two ECAC hockey tournament championships and two ECAC hockey regular season titles. Before arriving in New Haven, CT, Wallack also spent time as a coach for Division 1 schools Holy Cross, Connecticut and Quinnipiac and he has also been involved for a couple of years with several tournaments with the U.S. National program. As a collegiate player, he was a four-year starting goaltender and senior captain at Springfield College in Massachusetts.

“Kyle embodies everything the Indiana Ice stands for here in Indianapolis,” said CEO Paul Skjodt. “His character, professionalism and experience will fit right in with our organization and team goals. The most impressive part of his stay at Yale was his ability to not only recruit, but to build a team of student athletes that require the highest standards of education to gain entry and still win at the college level. That model follows the same standards we have here at Cathedral High school and the Indiana Ice.”

Wallack’s first task will be Indiana Ice Main Camp which takes place next week (6/9-6/12) at the St. Vincent Sports Rink at the Pepsi Coliseum.
