Musketeers Assistant Advances to College Hockey

Press Release

Sioux City Musketeers Assistant Coach Cam Ellsworth has taken an associate coaching position with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell of Hockey East. Hired in Sioux City for the 2008-09 season, Ellsworth served as an Assistant Coach on the Musketeer bench for the past three seasons.

He was part of a coaching staff from 2008-11 that saw the team increase its win and point totals each year, culminating in the Musketeers first appearance in the Clark Cup Playoffs since 2007-08.

"I am excited for this new opportunity," said Ellsworth. "Although it was hard to leave such a great organization, I look forward to taking my experiences with me to my next chapter in Lowell."

In addition to coaching, Ellsworth played a major role in the team's scouting department. Over the last three seasons, Ellsworth has recruited or coached ten players drafted by NHL teams and another 43 who committed to NCAA Division I hockey programs. He is responsible for drafting talents such as Jordan Schmaltz, Caleb Herbert, and Ryan Carpenter.

"We are excited to add Cam to our staff," said Umass-Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "His enthusiasm was evident throughout the interview process. He will draw from his successful athletic career as he mentors our young goaltenders. His coaching experience was spent in one of the premier junior development leagues and he will be a strong addition to the organization."

Prior to his arrival in Sioux City, the former goaltender Ellsworth was a three-time WCHA All-Academic Team member with Michigan Tech from 2003-05. He ranks as the program's all-time leader in games played (117) and saves (3,510).

"Cam really deserves this opportunity," said Head Coach and General Manager Brett Larson. "He worked hard for it and I know he'll do a great job in Lowell."

"I look forward to seeing Sioux City continue to build on the winning foundation that we've established here, especially over the last two years," said Ellsworth, a Leamington, Ontario native. "I know Coach Larson and Coach Paulsen will do a great job. I would like to thank Jim Kronschnabel, Todd Knott, Rick Comley Jr., Luke Strand, Donn Lux, Craig Woodcroft, Lloyd Ney, Keith Paulsen, and all of the staff that I worked with for the last three years."
