OHL Announces 2011-12 Regular Season Schedule

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the regular season schedule of games for 2011-12. 
The 2011-12 opens on Wednesday September 21, 2011, when the Robertson Cup Champion Owen Sound Attack host the Plymouth Whalers at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre at 7:00 pm.

The season continues on Thursday September 22 with three games including the Guelph Storm at the Windsor Spitfires, the Kingston Frontenacs at the Barrie Colts, and the Niagara IceDogs at the Peterborough Petes.  All remaining teams open their season on Friday September 23 including the defending Eastern Conference Champions and Bobby Orr Trophy winners the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors when they visit the Sudbury Wolves with a 7:35 pm puck-drop.

Action returns to the Hershey Centre, site of the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup, on Friday September 30 when the Majors host the Attack in a rematch of the 2011 Rogers OHL Championship Series at 7:35 pm.

The 680 game regular season wraps up on Sunday March 18, 2012, before the league’s top 16 teams will battle for the Robertson Cup in the 2012 OHL Playoffs.

The OHL Champion will then travel to Shawinigan, Quebec, for the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup May 18-27 where they will compete against the host Cataractes as well as the champions from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey League in the 94th edition of the prestigious national championship.

The Ontario Hockey League continues the tradition of being primarily a weekend league in order to accommodate the student athlete with 88.5% (602) of games scheduled between Thursday and Sunday. Friday continues to be the busiest night during the season with 210 games scheduled, followed by 171 on Saturday.
