Sarnia gets Alberga for 2012 selection

Press Release

BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League’s Brampton Battalion has traded centre Domenic Alberga to the Sarnia Sting for its fourth-round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, the club announced Wednesday.

Alberga, who turns 19 on July 28, played two seasons with the Battalion, scoring 13 goals and adding 25 assists for 38 points in 133 career games. The six-foot-one 179-pounder also had one goal and four assists for five points in 15 playoff games over the two seasons.

Alberga, who registered eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 67 games in 2010-11, was a fifth-round pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection from the junior A Villanova Knights.

“He’s a strong two-way player, and I expect he’ll be a valuable addition for the Sting,” said Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach. “We needed to create openings for our young prospects, and this trade benefits the Battalion and gives Domenic a chance to move into a leadership role with Sarnia.”

The trade gives the Battalion a total of 18 picks in the 15-round OHL Priority Selection process next year. The club, which traded its own fifth-rounder to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, also holds selections in the fourth, fifth and 12th rounds from the Sudbury Wolves, Sting and Ottawa 67’s respectively. The pick acquired from Sudbury originally belonged to the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.

Absent Craig Moore, who will forgo an overage season to attend university, the trade leaves the Troops with 11 forwards who saw action with the club last season.
