DIEBOLD HEADS TO RENSSELAER A YEAR EARLY

Press Release

KEARNEY, Neb. – After looking to stay in the USHL for one more season, Tri-City Storm goaltender Scott Diebold has decided to leave the team to go to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this fall.

Rensselaer had a prior goalie commitment fall through a month ago and needed to fill the backup position on their team. They decided to take the native of Cheektowaga, NY this season instead of waiting a year, which was originally the plan in April when Diebold committed.

“We are happy to see Scotty get the opportunity to go to RPI sooner than later, as this is what our league is about,” said Head Coach/General Manager Drew Schoneck. “We wish nothing but the best for him in the future as an Engineer and his career following college as well.”

Diebold, who went 10-16-3 in his only season with the Storm, including four shutouts in 35 games, posted a 2.75 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.

Rensselaer is a NCAA Division I college hockey program located in Troy, NY and competes in the ECAC hockey conference with the likes of Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

The 18-year old, who is 6-foot-1 and 145 pounds, was drafted in the 2010 USHL Entry Draft with the 278th overall pick (19th round) by the Storm.
