Vipers hire former BCHL blueliner as assistant coach

Press Release

Jason Williamson will have a former on-ice rival at his side this season at the helm of the Vernon Vipers.

The club has hired former Victoria Salsa and Burnaby Bulldogs defenceman Chris Shaw as an assistant coach for the coming season.

Shaw played five years of pro hockey after his BCHL career and spent last season as head coach of the Junior B Nelson Leafs of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. Vipers owner Duncan Wray is confident his team has found the right man for the job

"My biggest concern is hiring the right people," said Wray. "(Chris) knows the league well having played in it. He's just the kind of guy we were looking for in terms of his connections and knowing the Xs and Os of the game."

Shaw, a 30-year-old Surrey native, takes the place of Williamson who was promoted to head coach last week after Mark Ferner took a job with the WHL's Everett Silvertips.
