Attack Deal Schumacher to Hounds

Press Release

The Owen Sound Attack has dealt Swedish forward Michael Schumacher to the Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds in exchange for Russian forward Yegor Malenkikh. Schumacher, the Attack’s first pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft (55th overall) had not yet reported to Owen Sound, while the Attack’s second pick, Artur Gavrus arrived Thursday evening.

Malenkikh, a 17 year old from Russia is not expected to report to Owen Sound or any team in the Canadian Hockey League this season. Malenkikh has elected to play in the KHL, which will allow him to be closer to his father who has been recently diagnosed with spinal cancer. Malenkikh’s KHL team, S.K.A. St. Petersburg has agreed to cover the medical bills associated with the father’s illness.

Schumacher being dealt to the Greyhounds comes fiver days after the Attack acquired Daniel Catenacci from the Greyhounds in exchange for Andrew Fritsch and a 2nd Round Draft Pick. This left the Attack with one open import spot this morning when Rookie Camp got under way.
