BRONCOS NAME SCHNEIDER ASSISTANT COACH

Swift Current, SK – Swift Current Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb is pleased to announce that Andy Schneider has been named as an Assistant Coach with the hockey club. Schneider will join Lamb and current Assistant Coach Darren Evjen on the bench for the upcoming season.

The 39-year old Schneider has 15 years of European hockey experience, playing 10 consecutive seasons in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga with the Schwennigen Wild Wings, Revier Lions, Munich Barons, Hamburg Freezers and DEG Metro Stars, over three seasons in the Austrian Erste Bank Hockey League with the Klagenfurt AC, one season in the Swedish Elite league with the Leksands IF and one season in the 2nd Eishockey-Bundesliga with the Schwennigen ERC. Schneider also has playing experience in the American Hockey League with the New Haven/Prince Edward Island Senators, the International Hockey League with the Minnesota/Manitoba Moose and the National Hockey League where he played 10 games with the Ottawa Senators.

A well-known Bronco alumnus and member of the Bronco Hall of Fame, Schneider played four seasons with the Broncos (1989-93) and wrapped up his Western Hockey League career with a total of 367 points in 309 games played.

“We are very happy to bring Andy into our organization as an Assistant Coach,” says General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb. “He will bring a wealth of experience to the club from his professional and European career. As an Assistant Coach, he will focus strongly on our player’s skill development.”

This will be only the second time in franchise history that there have been two Assistant Coaches on the team. The last time was from 1998-2001 when Andrew Milne took the role as the second Assistant Coach.

“I am really looking forward to my new role with the Broncos. I am very loyal to the team and Swift Current having played a majority of my junior career here and also meeting my wife here,” states Schneider. “The Broncos are a big part of my life and I am very excited to help this club in any way that I can.”

Schneider’s first day as Assistant Coach will be on Monday, August 22nd 2011.
