Bulls Deal Bathgate to Plymouth

Press Release

BELLEVILLE, ON - After a solid three year tenure in Belleville, the Bulls have dealt veteran centreman Andy Bathgate to the Plymouth Whalers.

Bulls Head Coach and General Manager announced Thursday that the Bulls have sent the overaged Bathgate across the border in return for two third round draft picks. The Bulls will receive Plymouth's third round draft picks in 2013 and 2014.

The Brampton native, who spent a brief time at the conclusion of last season with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, tallied 42 career goals with the Bulls along with 75 assists in 172 games. Along with Luke Judson and Tyler Randell who has signed with Boston, Bathgate remains as the only other active OHL player to have skated with the Bulls during their memorable 2007-08 season when they made an appearance in the Memorial Cup.

Drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Bathgate has gone unsigned and appears to be headed back to the Ontario Hockey League, now joining an always competitive squad in Plymouth.

"I'm really looking forward to joining the Whalers," said Bathgate. "They're always a consistent team and they'll have plenty of talent in the lineup next year with guys like Noesen, Rakell and others."

When asked of his experience in Belleville, Bathgate replied, "I really matured as an individual in the three years with the Bulls. I met some great people and became a lot better at hockey. I wouldn't trade my time there for the world."

Bathgate set career highs across the board in 2010, with 25 goals and 35 assists in 64 games.
