Bulls Extend Head Coach's Contract

Press Release

AMARILLO, TX – The man who guided the Amarillo Bulls to the most successful season in the history of hockey in the Texas Panhandle is being rewarded for his hard work.

The Amarillo Bulls, defending 2011 South Division Champions, are proud to announce (today) Tuesday that they have extended the contract of Head Coach Dennis Williams for three more years to remain as bench boss for the team.

“This was an easy decision based on the results from Dennis. He has shown his ability to develop players and move them on to college, as well as his commitment to the organization, players and community,” stated Gary Gelinas, President of Consolidated Sports (ownership group) and the Bulls. “He has shown that he is able to help players move on to college hockey, which is a core element to our program, and help these young men become better citizens.”

“Dennis has embraced our belief on how to build a successful program and his values align with our corporate values. Dennis has become an integral part of the Bulls family and it was very important to have him with us for the long term.”

In his inaugural season, Williams guided the Bulls to a 36-16-6 mark, the South Division Championship, and a trip to the Robertson Cup National Championship Tournament in Topeka, Kansas. The Bulls battled hard at the tournament and finished in third place.

Williams, who hails from Stratford, Ontario Canada, said he is thrilled with the new contract extension and is looking forward to another four years in Amarillo.

“I'm thankful to Owner Bill Yuill, and President Gary Gelinas for the resources and support that have made to our program,” Williams said. “I am very fortunate to be working for two great individuals.

“The city of Amarillo and our fans have been tremendous. I believe our success last year was just the beginning of good things for hockey in Amarillo. I look forward to the upcoming season and the future of hockey in Amarillo.”

Williams added, “I have always been told to surround yourself with good, hard-working people, and I have been fortunate to have Assistant Coach Rocky Russo beside me for year one, as well as the upcoming season. We will do our best to repeat and make our way back to the National Tournament.”
