Eagles Trade Vanderhoek for Matt Cronin

Press Release

Surrey Eagles Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Matt Erhart announced today that they have acquired 19 year old defensemen Matt Cronin from the Westside Warriors.

Erhart sent 20 year old forward Richard Vanderhoek (Langley, B.C.) to the Westside Warriors in exchange for 19 year old defensemen Matt Cronin (Langley, B.C.)

Last season, Cronin (6’3 215lbs) played 52 games with the Warriors and had 4 goal and 10 assists and 100 PIMS. Cronin is committed to Merrimack University (NCAA) for the 2012-13 season. He joins current Eagles, Tyler and Brandon Morley who are also committed to Merrimack. Cronin spent the 2009-2010 season with the Langley Chiefs, where he played 52 games and had 3 goals and 3 assists and 92 PIMS.

Erhart is very excited about the addition of Cronin “Matt is a big body that plays the game extremely hard and will add a physical dimension to our defence for the upcoming season. I look forward to being able to work with Matt as he prepares for Merrimack.”

Vanderhoek spent parts of 4 seasons with the Eagles, playing a total of 179 games. He scored 66 goals and had 82 assists in his time with the Eagles. The Surrey Eagles would like to thank Richard for his contributions to the hockey club and wish him the best in the future.

The Surrey Eagles begin training camp Monday August 22nd at South Surrey Arena.
