EXHIBITION GAME HELPS SLAVE LAKE

Press Release

The North Peace Navigators will be bringing the Alberta Junior Hockey League to Peace River for the first time ever, and for a great cause.

On August 31, the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL will be taking on the Dawson Creek Rage of the North American Hockey League in a pre-season game.

Two dollars from every ticket sold will be going to the Town of Slave Lake, to help with the rebuilding of the town, after it was devastated by fire.

Fundraising efforts aside, Navigators general manager Darcy Haugan is just excited to be bringing junior A hockey to his town.

"We are pleased to be able to team up with the Storm and bring something like this to Peace River for the first time ever," he said. "The Storm are one of the premier junior A franchises in Canada and we are extremely grateful to them for helping us make this happen."

The final agenda for the evening as yet to be cemented, but former Edmonton Oiler and three-time Stanley Cup champion Dave Hunter has already confirmed that he will be in attendance, and organizers are hopeful of a current Oiler joining Hunter as a celebrity guest.

Haugan is hopeful that this event spawns similar events in the future.

" When you look at this event and see all the different levels of hockey that are participating, it reinforces that what we are trying to do is the right thing," said Haugan, whose Navigators play in the Northwest Junior Hockey League, a junior B league. "We are looking at this as something that will be beneficial for the whole North Peace."

Tickets will be going on sale August 8 at the following locations: Kal Tire Peace River, MNP Peace River and 3-Beyond 2000 – Grimshaw.
