Generals Name Jenner Captain and Unveil 75th Anniversary Jersey's

Press Release

At a press conference held this afternoon the Oshawa Generals announced that third-year centre Boone Jenner has been named the Generals Team Captain for the 2011-2012 season.

Jenner, 18, is entering his third season with the Generals after being the Club’s 1st round selection, 4th overall in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. In his two seasons in Oshawa, Jenner has scored 48 goals and 71 assists for 115 points in 128 career OHL games.

The native of Dorchester, Ontario was selected in the 2nd round, 37th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft this past June. Known for his great two-way play along with exceptional grit and determination, Jenner also participated at Canada’s National Junior Development Camp earlier this month.

“Boone possesses the intangibles, the character and the work ethic that we feel as an organization ultimately represents what the heart of a General is,” said Generals Head Coach and General Manager Chris DePiero. “At the end of last season in our exit meetings with the players, to a man our guys felt Boone was the guy who would run through a burning house for his teammates and that personality will make him a great leader.”

The Generals also announced their Assistant Captains for the 2011-2012 Season with Christian Thomas, Scott Valentine and Andy Andreoff rounding out the leadership group.

Thomas, 19, is entering his third full season in Oshawa and was originally acquired via a trade with the London Knights in January 2009. The native of Toronto sits 48th on the Generals All-Time scoring list with 99 goals and 80 assists for 179 points in 157 games.

He was a 2nd round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and also participated at Canada’s National Junior Development Camp in August.

Valentine, 20, has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons with the Generals after he was acquired in a trade with the London Knights in January 2009. The native of Metcalfe, Ontario has registered 10 goals and 54 assists for 64 points in 151 games in a Generals uniform while being a leader on the Generals blueline.

Andreoff, 20, has spent his entire four-year career with the Generals after he was selected by Oshawa in the 5th round of the 2007 OHL Priority Selection. Last season he had a breakout year scoring 33 goals and 42 assists for 75 points in 66 games while also leading the team with a +34 plus/minus rating.

The Pickering, Ontario native sits 16th on the Generals All-Time Games Played list and is 63rd All-Time in scoring with 59 goals and 90 assists for 149 points in 224 career games. He was selected in the 3rd round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings this past June. Andreoff was unable to be in attendance for the official announcement as he is participating in a development camp with the Los Angeles Kings.

“These three players are a great compliment to Boone and give us a great group of four for our leadership group,” said DePiero. “Each of these guys have had fantastic OHL careers to this point and they each bring their own strengths to the table.”

During the press conference the Generals also unveiled the Club’s two 75th Anniversary Jersey’s that that will each be worn twice at home during the 2011-2012 regular season.

Each of these special jerseys was created using various logo’s and colours that the Generals have used during their history.

The White, Yellow and Black jersey’s colours represent the Generals long history of being an affiliate of the Boston Bruins while also featuring the Generals long standing logo used when the Club played out of the Oshawa Civic Auditorium.
