Kings announce player signings

In preparation for the opening of training camp for the Pembroke Lumber Kings, Coach and General Manager Sheldon Keefe announced the signing of eight players to help fill the holes left by the many graduating players from last season’s national championship squad. Joining the team are five forwards and three defencemen.

Here’s a look at who they are:

SWANN BOISVERT – YOB: 1992 POS: Forward HT: 6’1 WT: 185
HOMETOWN: Blainville, Quebec LAST TEAM: Stanstead College Prep
Scouting Report: A good sized forward with a dynamic skill set. He will be relied on to help boost the offence. Committed to the University of Maine for 2012.

BEN DALPE – YOB: 1994 POS: Forward HT: 5’9 WT: 175
HOMETOWN: Paris, Ontario LAST TEAM: Brantford Golden Eagles
Scouting Report: A highly skilled forward that has a great hockey sense. Should be among the most exciting young players in the league this season.

JUSTIN PELOCK – YOB: 1993 POS: Forward HT: 5’8 WT: 180
HOMETOWN: St. Charles, Illinois LAST TEAM: Team Illinois U18 AAA
Scouting Report: A versatile forward with great speed and puck control.

BRENDAN McGUIRE – YOB: 1993 POS: Forward HT: 6’6 WT: 210
HOMETOWN: Flower Mound, Texas LAST TEAM: Alliance U18 AAA
Scouting Report: A big, power forward with good hands and a hard shot. Scored over a point per game last season.

MAXIME LAMONTAGNE – YOB: 1994 POS: Forward HT: 5’11 WT: 175
HOMETOWN: Hearst, Ontario LAST TEAM: Kapuskasing Flyers
Scouting Report: A good young talent that can play any forward position and help both offensively and defensively. Potential to develop into a high end offensive player.

LUKE NICKELS – YOB: 1991 POS: Defence HT: 5’11 WT: 185
HOMETOWN: Carol Stream, Illinois LAST TEAM: Toledo Cherokee Jr. A
Scouting Report: A very mobile, skilled defenceman with great speed and ability to move the puck up the ice.

JJ HART – YOB: 1993 POS: Defence HT: 6’3 WT: 210
HOMETOWN: Frisco, Texas LAST TEAM: Alliance U18 AAA
Scouting Report: A big, strong defenceman that can contribute both offensively and defensively. Has a hard shot from the blueline.

TOM HILBRICH – YOB: 1991 POS: Defence HT: 6’6 WT: 230
HOMETOWN: Clarendon Hills ,Illinois LAST TEAM: Fresno Monsters Jr. A
Scouting Report: Size brings a big presence to the defence. Good mobility and skill level. An experienced player who was captain of his team last season. Lives in Illinois but is a Canadian citizen who grew up in the Toronto area.

More signings and acquisitions are expected to be announced as training camp progresses.

The Kings take to the ice for the first time when training camp opens on Saturday morning and then they quickly move into exhibition games as the Kemptville 73’s are in town this Sunday August 21st for a 7:00pm game at the Pembroke and Area Community Centre which will also have a visit from TSN anchors Darren Dutchyshen, Kate Beirness and the TSN crew as part of the TSN Kraft Celebration Tour. The Kings are hoping for a large turnout to show off the Hockey Town Community Spirit to the rest of the country. Tickets are available at the door.
