Musketeers Suter Commits to UMass-Lowell

Press Release

Sioux City Musketeers defenseman Jake Suter will continue his hockey career this fall at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Suter collected seven points (1g, 6a) and 83 penalty minutes in 55 games for the Musketeers during the 2010-11 USHL season. He scored his lone USHL goal in the 4-2 victory over Tri-City on March 25th. Suter was a staple on the team's penalty killing unit and served in a leadership role wearing the "A" on his jersey as assistant captain. The 6-0, 193-pound defenseman from Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin was selected by the Musketeers in the third round of the 2010 USHL Entry Draft.

Jake Suter's father, Gary, is a former USHL player (Dubuque Fighting Saints, 1981-83) and was recently named a part of the 2011 Class for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Suter will be reunited with former Musketeers assistant coach Cam Ellsworth who joined the coaching staff at UMass-Lowell earlier this summer. Six other players who spent time in the USHL during the 2010-11 season are also committed to UMass-Lowell; Ryan McGrath (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Colton Saucerman (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Mike Conderman (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Micki Mihailovich (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Zack Kamrass (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Bill Eiserman (Tri-City Storm).

The University of Massachusetts-Lowell is a member of Hockey and had eight USHL alumni on the roster for the RiverHawks during the 2010-11 season; Derek Arnold (Waterloo Black Hawks), Joe Caveney (Sioux City Musketeers), Nick Curry (Sioux City Musketeers), Dan Furlong (Sioux Falls Stampede), Josh Holmstrom (Sioux Falls/Lincoln), T.J. Massie (Tri-City Storm), Will Rayner (Lincoln Stars), and Chad Ruhwedel (Sioux Falls Stampede).
