Silvertips Extend Radio Partnership with KRKO

Press Release

EVERETT, WA – The Everett Silvertips today announced a three-year contract extension that will keep Fox Sports 1380 AM (KRKO) as the radio home of Silvertips hockey through the 2013-14 Western Hockey League season. Fox Sports 1380 will carry all regular season and playoff games as well as the weekly Silvertips Hockey Show.

“We’re very happy to renew our long-standing radio partnership with Fox Sports 1380 for another three years,” said Vice President/General Manager Doug Soetaert. “They’ve been great supporters of ours since day one, and since then we have maintained an outstanding working relationship. This agreement is a great way to continue bringing the excitement of Silvertips hockey to our fans.”

Locally owned Fox Sports 1380 has been the flagship station of the Everett Silvertips since their inception in 2003, carrying each of the club’s eight previous WHL seasons. Fox Sports 1380 is also the North Sound’s home for Washington Huskies football and basketball, local high school football and basketball, Everett Aquasox baseball and NASCAR. This fall Fox Sports 1380 will add a new sister station, KKXA 1520 AM, providing a potential live radio outlet when the Tips’ schedule overlaps with other broadcasts.

“The Everett Silvertips are recognized regionally as a major entertainment and sports attraction,” Fox Sports 1380 General Manager Andy Skotdal said. “Families have fun at Silvertips games, and we see them as an important part of our lineup.”

Bringing all the action to the Silvertips faithful throughout the season will be new play-by-play broadcaster Travis Huntington, who makes his debut as the third “Voice of the Silvertips” in 2011-12. Huntington will be joined in the booth for home games by color commentator Al Kinisky, a former WHL forward and NHL draft pick who returns for his sixth season as a member of Everett’s broadcast team.
