Spitfires President returns as Head Coach

Press Release

His future has been up in the air since May.

But, at a press conference today at the WFCU Centre, President Bob Boughner ended weeks of speculation, announcing he will be back behind the Windsor Spitfires bench this season.

After serving as Windsor's head coach from 2006-2010, Boughner signed a three-year contract as an Assistant Coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets last summer.

But he resigned after one season, citing family reasons.

Boughner has a career record of 166-80-26 as Head Coach of the Spitfires, leading the team to consecutive Memorial Cup championships in 2009 and 2010.

Boughner says all three of last year's coaches will remain on staff.

Bob Jones will become Associate Coach, while DJ Smith and Dave Matsos will serve as Assistant Coaches.

"All four of us will be back (behind the bench) there," Boughner said. "We might experiment a little bit, with three of us behind the bench and the fourth (Matsos) as an eye in the sky up in the press box."
