Stampede Assistant Joins Clarkson University Staff

Press Release

The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that assistant coach Andy Jones has resigned his position with the club and accepted an assistant coaching position with Division I Clarkson University.

Andy worked tirelessly for the Stampede and in particular our players," said Stampede head coach Kevin Hartzell. "He is an outstanding coach and a classy person. It is always gratifying when good things happen to good people. Andy earned this great opportunity to advance to an outstanding program with a great tradition, I couldn't be happier for Andy. Once again, the USHL helps a young man advance. Selfishly I am sorry to see him go, but all of us in Sioux Falls should be happy for him and wish him nothing but the best," added Hartzell.

Jones joined the Stampede during the 2006-07 season and was instrumental in helping guide the Herd to their very first Clark Cup championship that season.

The Minnetonka, Minnesota native primarily worked with the defense and did extensive video analysis for the team. The Herd finished third in the USHL defensively in 2006-07 with a 2.90 GAA. The Stampede were one of the top five defensive teams in the USHL three times during Jones' five seasons in Sioux Falls.

In 2009, Jones was selected to serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. Junior Select Team - comprised of USHL players - that captured a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge.

The Stampede compiled a 164-103-33 record and five consecutive USHL playoff appearances during Jones' time with the club. In addition, he has helped coach eight players that were selected in the NHL Entry Draft and more than 60 that have earned NCAA Division I scholarships
