YVES ARCHAMBAULT, SYLVAIN BOUTET, RICHARD TROTTIER AND LARRY WEBER JUMP ON BOARD AS PANELLISTS FOR 2011 MOLSON EXPORT QUEBEC HOCKEY SUMMIT

The 2011 Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit steering committee today announced the four panellists of the event’s third session: Creating a safe environment through positive behaviour and attitude. The guest speaker for the third session on Saturday, August 27 is Dr. Mark Aubry.

Yves Archambault is the technical director for Hockey Quebec, a position he has held since 1999. He has earned a Level 4 coaching certification from the National Coaches Institute (NCI) and was a manager of the hockey program and sport department as well as a physical education teacher at the Collège Français in Longueuil. Archambault was formally the director of the Tretiak and International Hockey School which was held at the Complexe Les 4 Glaces in Brossard. He spent two years as a professor at the Université de Montréal where he received his bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Dr. Sylvain Boutet is a general practitioner, certified by the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine and the Association québécoise des médecins du sport, who specializes in the field of sports medicine. He is currently active at L’Hêtrière in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures and at the Cortex Clinic. Dr. Boutet serves as the chief medical officer of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as well as the team doctor for the Quebec Remparts.

Richard Trottier is the director of officiating for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Trottier spent 10 seasons as an NHL referee and 12 seasons in the QMJHL as an official. He was an official at the 2001 NHL All-Star game in Denver and worked three Memorial Cups for the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). He was inducted into the QMJHL Hall of Fame in 2009.

Larry Weber has worked for Bauer for fifteen years and is currently the director of risk management and compliance for Bauer Hockey Corp., which is based in St-Jérôme, Que. He is also the co-chairman of the Bauer Hockey Safety Panel, and has worked with the CSA Technical Committee on Equipment and Facilities the sport. He was recently anointed chairman of a new sub-committee that will consider special certification requests for consumers with medical conditions.

The Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit’s theme is to address the challenges facing hockey in the Province of Quebec today. Discussion will revolve around four main topics:

· Long-term player development: Exploring opportunities for development based on age; analyzing the development arc; actions currently being taken in Quebec; challenges facing development in Quebec.

· Player development through the Program of Excellence: Development opportunities for 16-year-old players and older; options following their internship; actions currently being taken in Quebec.

· Creating a safe environment through positive behaviour and attitude: Issues facing player health, including concussions; studies on hockey injuries; impact of rules; importance of adequately utilizing body checks and how players can better protect themselves on the ice.

· Recruitment and retention of players: Presentation of the demographic statistics from the Province of Quebec; Hockey Québec membership; new activities and initiatives; women’s hockey.

The 2011 Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit will be held at the Bell Centre in Montreal on August 26 and 27. The public is invited to assist and participate. A very limited number of tickets are still available for the event.
