Press Release
Back in the spring of 2009 at a camp in Edmonton, the Grande Prairie Storm coaches were commenting about the passion and tenacity of a young hockey player from Saskatchewan.
The young man’s name was Mitch Neumeier.
Neumeier, much to the delight of the coaches, who included now head coach/general manager Blaine Bablitz, signed with the Storm.
Heading into his third year with the club, Neumeier will wear the captain’s C on the front of his jersey.
“Mitch is clearly the leader of our group,” says Bablitz. “He leads both on and off the ice. His work ethic and passion for the game are contagious. He is also a very competitive young man, who wants to win very badly.”
Neumeier, who hails from Dodsland, SK, is a 20-year-old who was one of the team’s on and off ice leaders last season.
He finished fourth in team scoring with 24 goals and 19 assists while taking 112 penalty minutes. In two seasons with the Storm he has played in 116 games with 29 goals, 30 assists and 175 penalty minutes.
“Being with us for two years now Mitch has a clear understanding of the expectations demanded out of our players and will do a great job teaching our new and younger players throughout the season,” said Bablitz of the 5-foot-11, 175 pounder who played Midget AAA with the Tisdale Trojans in Saskatchewan.
The team has handed out two assistant captain letters to begin the season.
Veteran defenceman Caylen Walls, into his third year with the team, will wear one A while the other will be sewn onto the jersey of Taylor Cote, who starts his second full season with the club. A third A will be handed out from among the other players later in the season when Bablitz sees a leader emerge.
Neumeier is the 15th captain of the Storm. The others include Darren Kramer, Spencer Bettenson, Jason Abel, Mike Mohr, Adam Loncan, Mike Lefley, Jordan Menzies, Mark Malekoff, Trevor Mazurek, Chris Wilson, Andrew Buote, Scott McNeill and Blake Clement.
