OAKVILLE BLADES GAMES ON THELAKEFM.CA

Press Release

White Rock Media Inc. is announcing that its new internet radio station — thelakeFM.ca — hit the airwaves at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 15, with a line-up of local DJs and around-the-clock programming. White Rock Media Inc., owners of Mississauga's thehazeFM.ca, was founded by Peter Whitaker as a way to connect Mississauga residents and foster a stronger sense of community within the city. Noticing that the Town of Oakville was missing such a local medium, thelakeFM.ca was created to showcase local headlines and personalities.

“We’re very proud to announce the launch of Oakville’s very own internet radio station, thelakeFM.ca,” said Ian Cunningham, station manager of thelakeFM.ca. “The Oakville community has not had a stage to showcase their talents until now. ThelakeFM.ca will strive constantly to connect our residents to all things Oakville. We want to create something that is uniquely personal to local listeners, and bring a real sense of community to our great town.”

ThelakeFM.ca will both entertain and inform audiences, playing the best music from the 60s through the present day, drawn from a wide variety of genres that reflect our society and diverse forms of expression. “We want to establish deep ties to the local community and serve as a positive force in building the creative economy of Oakville and the Halton Region.” ThelakeFM.ca is committed to providing a venue for local business and organizations “through on-location broadcasting and localized marketing” providing them wide exposure that would not otherwise be available.

Beyond its broad musical palette, thelakeFM.ca will bring local news and information into greater focus for a new audience of internet radio listeners. ThelakeFM.ca will launch principally as a music station with a number of newsbreaks, interviews and special features. ThelakeFM.ca will also draw heavily off of local sporting institutions, such as minor sports associations, to celebrate the achievements of the youth in the area.

“In keeping with our dedication to the local sports scene, thelakeFM.ca will be the exclusive internet radio broadcaster of the OJHL’s Oakville Blades Jr A Hockey Club.” The Oakville Blades are proud of their roots that they have set within the community and have been operating continuously since 1966 in the Town Of Oakville. The Blades are considered one of the elite Jr. A hockey clubs in the country. They have been twice provincial Champs along with two RBC Cup appearances representing Ontario for the national championships. They have set a league record in the OJHL by reaching the League Finals for the last four consecutive seasons. “The Oakville Blades are a pillar in our community and we are extremely excited for the opportunity to showcase this tremendous form of entertainment to the broader Oakville audience.”
