Smokies blueliner Sidhu headed to RIT Tigers

Press Release

The college commitments continue to come in from Trail and the most recent one is big news as it marks the first commitment from the 2011-12 season.

Smoke Eaters defenceman Rajan Sidhu has accepted an offer from the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers to play for the club starting next season.

"Sid has been working hard both on and off the ice to secure his post-secondary future and we are very excited for Rajan to have secured a scholarship early this season," said Trail head coach Bill Birks. "Rajan has been a will be a huge part of our team this year."

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Surrey product played 40 games last year for the Smokies picking up a goal and 22 assists. He notched three goals and 15 assists the season prior with Cowichan Valley.

RIT has drawn heavily from the BCHL in recent years with Coastal Conference MVP Matt Garbowsky, Surrey Eagles leading scorer Brad McGowan, Langley's Brandon Thompson and Brad Reid, who committed while with Coquiltam last year, all going to the school.

Sidhu will also join current Powell River Kings forward Daniel Schuler at RIT next year.
