Press Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - Belleville Bulls Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett announced Tuesday afternoon that the team has dealt veteran forward Brett Mackie to the Brampton Battalion in exchange for a conditional 8th round selection in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.
After 179 games in a Bulls uniform, Mackie joins the Troops who now carry three other overaged skaters in Mitchell Porowski, Ian Watters and Michael Santini. Watters underwent surgery on Saturday to repair three severed tendons in his right wrist, an injury he suffered Friday in Sarnia and will now be sidelined for three months.
A fourth round selection in 2007, Mackie played in two games with the Bulls this season, recording five penalty minutes and was a minus one.
Following the deal, Burnett had nothing but positive things to say about the feisty winger. "Brett loved being a Belleville Bull and this is a really difficult move to make. He's a tremendous competitor, a great teammate and an outstanding individual in the community. I wish nothing but the best for Brett. He's a guy who deserves a chance to play in this league."
Mackie was a part of the Bulls' 2009 run to the Eastern Conference final where they lost in six games to the Battalion. He was the Bulls' Humanitarian of the Year in 2010, participating in several community functions throughout the season.
Mackie joins the Troops in Guelph on Friday when they square off with the Storm.
The Bulls now carry three overaged players on their roster in defenceman Simon Gronvaldt, big centreman Adam Payerl and team captain Luke Judson.
