Press Release
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today the TELUS three stars of the month for September 2011.
The first star is awarded to the left-winger Yanni Gourde of the Victoriaville Tigres. Last month, he played 4 games in which he got 3 points or more and 2 games in which he scored 3 goals. In Rimouski, during an 8-2 victory for the Tigres in the second game of the season, Gourde tallied a career-best 7 points. During that same game, his 6 assists equalled the Tigres’ record, set 21 years ago by Patrick Lebeau. Moreover, he scored two game-winning goals, on September 9th against the Quebec Remparts and on September 25th against the Gatineau Olympiques. In total, he scored 9 goals on only 27 shots and added 13 assists for a total of 22 points and a +/- of +6.
The second star goes to Acadie-Bathurst Titan forward Zach O’Brien. O’Brien registered points in every game he played in September, missing just one because of a minor injury. During the Titan’s first three games of the season, he scored the game-winner. The right-winger can also boast about staying out of the penalty box during the month of September. He collected 9 goals and 11 assists for a total of 20 points and a +/- of +1 during the last three weeks.
Finally, the third star is awarded to Shawinigan Cataractes goaltender Alex Dubeau. The netminder had an excellent month, recording 5 wins, including a shutout against the Val-d’Or Foreurs on Saturday September 10th, a game during which he blocked 26 shots. In total, he stopped 152 of the 163 shots directed toward him, posting a 1.96 goals-against-average and 0.933 save percentage.
