Jr. Trappers name Jon Dionne new team captain

Press Release

The North Bay Jr. Trappers feel that actions speak louder than words when it comes to choosing a captain.

On Friday the club announced that 1992 birth year forward Jon Dionne will wear the “C” for 2011-2012 season.

The veteran forward from Chapleau, ON has recorded 5 assists in 10 regular season games this season.

Jr. Trappers head coach Tom McCarthy describes Dionne as a model citizen who shows up every day for work.

"In the qualities of a captain there are many different things why a player is a leader amongst his peers and a lot of it has to do with his work ethic,” said McCarthy.

“A lot has to do with how he prepares himself, his consistency, his ability to understand the game and communicate the game to his teammates and also how he applies himself in practices as much as in the game."

The humble Jon Dionne was shocked when he was told by the coaching staff on Thursday after practice.

"It's an honor just to be to be recognized by the coaching staff and the organization to play this role and I will do the best I can to do it," said Dionne.

The hard working forward has worn the “C before in minor hockey a couple seasons ago while playing for a travel team in Wawa. Dionne also held some considerable responsibility this summer as he worked full-time as a Fire Ranger for the Ministry of Natural Resources fighting forest fires across Northwestern and Northeastern Ontario.
