Knights’ Seth Griffith Named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Seth Griffith of the London Knights is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 2 after scoring two goals and four assists for six points in two games while posting a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Griffith helped the Knights maintain a perfect start to the 2011-12 OHL season with two wins this week to bring their overall record to 4-0-0-0. He picked up a goal and an assist on Friday night as part of an 8-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves before displaying a first star performance Saturday night in Plymouth scoring a shorthanded goal and adding three assists as part of a 6-3 win over the Whalers.

Griffith, an 18-year-old from Wallaceburg, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Knights and recorded 62 points in 68 games last season. Griffith was also a free agent invite to the Tampa Bay Lightning Training Camp this season.

Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67’s and Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting were also considered this week. Monahan led the league with seven points in three games scoring four goals and three assists, while Yakupov picked up six points in two games scoring twice and adding four assists. In goal, Matt Murray of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds won two games in two starts and posted a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .938.
