SHL Honors - Week Two

Press Release

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the second week of the 2011-12 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward Cody Bradley of the Indiana Ice, named CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Jordan Schmaltz of the Sioux City Musketeers, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Matthew O’Connor of the Youngstown Phantoms, who earned honors as the Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Bradley scored five points (2g, 3a) and earned a plus-three rating in helping the Ice claim two victories against Team USA during the weekend. On Friday, the forward scored a power play goal and assisted on the game-winner in the 5-3 victory. Bradley then collected a USHL career high three points (1g, 2a) in the 7-4 win for the Ice. The 17-year-old native of Tampa, Florida is playing in his second USHL season and currently tied for the team lead in scoring with six points (2g, 4a) while helping the Ice to their first-ever 3-0-0 start in the USHL.

Schmaltz recorded three points (2g, 1a) as the Musketeers split a pair of games during the USHL’s second week. He celebrated his 18th birthday by collecting one goal and one assist in Saturday’s 5-2 win vs. Fargo to give the Musketeers their first win of the season. Schmaltz then tallied the lone goal for the Musketeers in the 2-1 loss to Omaha on Sunday. The native of Verona, Wisconsin led all USHL defensemen in scoring last season. Schmaltz is a top prospect leading into the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and is committed to the University of North Dakota.

O’Connor stopped all 22 shots he faced in the 3-0 victory vs. Chicago on Saturday to earn the first victory of the season for the Youngstown Phantoms and earn the first USHL victory for new head coach Anthony Noreen. The goaltender was also key in turning away all six power play opportunities by Chicago. It was the first USHL shutout for O’Connor who appeared in 29 games for the Phantoms last season. The 19-year native of Toronto, Ontario is committed to play collegiate hockey at Boston University following his USHL career.
