Press Release
The Chicago Steel announced that defenseman Chris Joyaux has committed to play collegiate hockey at Miami University beginning next season.
“I took an unofficial visit to Miami the week before we went to play Team USA,” Joyaux said. “The coaching staff made me feel at home and it would have been very hard not committing to such a great school, coaching staff and hockey team.”
Joyaux was acquired by the Steel last season after he began the year first playing for the Tri-City Storm and then the Des Moines Buccaneers. In 44 total games in 2010-11, he collected seven points (3g, 4a) and 72 penalty minutes. The defenseman first broke into the USHL with the Tri-City Storm in 2009-10 and dished out one assist in two games of action. Joyaux is a native of Bloomingdale, Illinois and was selected by the Storm in the 2009 USHL Entry Draft.
“We are extremely excited for Chris to continue his development at a top hockey institution like Miami,” Chicago Steel head coach Scott McConnell said. “Since Chris came to the Steel last season, he has really embraced his role on our team and has really grown. He will continue to grow in college in his pursuits to play at the highest level possible.”
