Press Release
EVERETT, WA – Everett Silvertips Vice President/General Manager Doug Soetaert today announced the acquisition of 17-year-old defenseman Lucas Grayson in a trade with the Red Deer Rebels, who will get Everett’s 4th round pick in the 2013 WHL draft in exchange.
A native of Port Hardy, British Columbia, Grayson was selected by the Rebels in the sixth round (116th overall) of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft. He played 40 games for Red Deer as a 16-year-old last season, posting a +5 rating and 71 penalty minutes – including nine fighting majors – while chipping in one goal and one assist. The 6-foot, 176-pound, right-handed shooting blueliner appeared in one game for the Rebels this year against Prince Albert on October 1.
“We’re looking forward to adding Lucas to our lineup,” Soetaert said of Grayson. “He’s a very competitive young man, and he’s in the age group we’re looking for as we build up our young hockey team. He and Nick Walters were defensive partners for Team Pacific during last year’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.”
The Silvertips will be back on home ice to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings out of the East Division Wednesday at 7:05 pm at Comcast Arena. They will then host the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday night in our 2011-12 “Pink the Rink” game, which benefits the fight against breast cancer right here in Everett and the surrounding communities.
