Press Release
BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Brampton Battalion has acquired the rights to centre Jamie Lewis in a trade with the Niagara IceDogs, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Friday.
The Battalion sent Niagara a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection and a fifth-round pick in 2013 for Lewis and an 11th-round choice in 2013.
Lewis, a 17-year-old Richmond Hill, Ont., resident who has five goals and four assists for nine points in six games this season with the junior A North York Rangers.
A right shot, Lewis was a third-round pick by Niagara from the Toronto Young Nationals in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection.
“He’s a good young player who plays a two-way game,” said Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach, who added overage left winger Brett Mackie in a trade with the Belleville Bulls on Tuesday.
The Battalion may have wingers Barclay Goodrow and Brandon Robinson back from injuries for the game at Guelph. Goodrow, the Troops’ leading scorer last year with 24 goals, has yet to play this season after suffering a separated shoulder in a rookie game with the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, and Robinson incurred a head injury when he hit the end boards in a 5-0 road victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Sept. 24.
Overage left winger Mitchell Porowski starts a two-game suspension for a slew-foot in a 4-3 victory via shootout over the host Sarnia Sting last Friday night, and defenceman Zach Bell and forwards Ian Watters, Connor Jarvis and Jordan Poirier remain sidelined with injuries.
