Wisconsin's Blaisdell named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Wisconsin Wilderness forward Zach Blaisdell has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period ending Oct. 2.

In two games this past week the 20-year-old native of Buffalo, Minn., notched five points on four goals and one assist helping the Wilderness pick up wins over Duluth and Thunder Bay and vault into first place in the SIJHL standings.

He began by tallying twice and being the game’s second star in a home ice victory over the Clydesdales on Wednesday. That was followed up by adding two more markers, including the game-winner, and an assist as Wisconsin skated to a road triumph vs. the North Stars Saturday. He earned first star laurels for his performance in that contest.

Blaisdell now leads all skaters in the league with seven goals while his eight overall points put him in a tie for seventh in SIJHL scoring. He also has a league-best two game-winners to his credit.

For his on-ice efforts Blaisdell will receive a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Cole Sonstebo, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs, Anthony Wolfe (F) Sioux Lookout Flyers; Jordan Shockley (F) Duluth Clydesdales and Sam Dubinsky, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars.

The Fort Frances Lakers and Iron Range Ironheads did not play any games last week and thus did not have a nominee.

At the conclusion of the 2011-12 regular season the top player in the SIJHL will be presented with the Pizza Hut player of the year award.
