Cents' Defenceman Reece Willcox Commits to Cornell University

Press Release

The Merritt Centennials are please to announce the committment of defenceman Reece Willcox to the Cornell University Big Red starting with the 2012-13 season.

Willcox has played 77 games over the last two seasons with the Cents and is well on his way to eclipsing his point total from the 2010-11 season. To this point in his BCHL career, the 6'2" Surrey native has posted 8 goals and 16 assists. Willcox also had 3 points in 4 playoff games last season.

"We are extremely proud of Reece in his decision to attend Cornell next season and this has been a very thorough process lasting well over a year," said Centennials GM & Head Coach Luke Pierce. "Reece is a very intelligent young man who does not make decisions of this magnitude in haste."

"He wanted to attend a university that could provide him with a first rate education as well as the tools and opportunity to reach the NHL," Pierce continued. "We believe Reece has made the right choice with Cornell and will be given the chance to reach both of his goals."

"His hard work both on the ice and in the classroom has opened this door for him and he fully deserves this opportunity." Pierce added. "We look forward to continued success with Reece in our line-up for the rest of the season and expect him to remain a key factor in our strong defence core."
