Gourde, Marcoux and Dubeau named TELUS three stars of the week

Yanni Gourde, Étienne Marcoux and Alex Dubeau were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for the period spanning December 5th to the 11th, 2011.

Victoriaville Tigres left-winger Yanni Gourde is the first star after having collected a total of 8 points in two games. He’s tied with Acadie Bathurst’s right-winger Zach O’Brien for the scoring lead at 61 points. Friday, in a 5-3 decision against the Rimouski Océanic, he scored the winning goal while registering 4 points. During Saturday’s tight game against the Rouyn-Noranada Huskies, he scored 1 goal and added 3 assists for a total of 4 points.

The second star is awarded to Blainville-Boisbriand goaltender Étienne Marcoux. Friday, in a 6-1 win against the Val-d’Or Foreurs, he stopped 13 shots and celebrated his 10th win of the season. He had a shutout on Saturday against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and was named the first star of the game after having blocked 30 shots. Despite the fact that he was injured at the beginning of the season, his record is among the best in the league with 11-3-1- 0, a goals-against -average of 2.54 and a save percentage of .911. He finished the week with 2 wins in 2 games and a save percentage of .977.

The third star belongs to Alex Dubeau of the Shawinigan Cataractes. Tuesday, the goaltender filled in midway through the first period when his team was falling behind 2-0. He allowed only one goal on 15 opportunities in 44 minutes. Friday, he collected his 3rd shutout of the season against the Drummondville Voltigeurs and earned the first star of the game. The Cataractes shutout Rimouski 5-0 on Sunday; the team is doing so well that the team is enjoying the second longest streak in its history for the number of consecutive minutes without allowing a goal (158:01). The team record was set at 207 minutes 04 seconds back in March 1998.
