Press Release sent to the World of Junior Hockey
PENTICTON, BC- The Penticton Vees Hockey Club is pleased to announce
that defenseman Nick Buchanan has committed to Minnesota State
University-Mankato Mavericks for the fall of 2012.
The 20 year-old from Victoria, BC is currently playing in his third
season in the BCHL and first with the Vees; Buchanan was acquired from
the Victoria Grizzlies in September.
The rear-guard has played in 140 career BCHL regular season games,
recording five goals and 31 points to go along with 100 penalty
minutes. However, Buchanan has developed a reputation as a premier
defensive-defenseman not only on the Vees but in the BCHL.
“I am very proud of what Nick has accomplished in such a short period
here in Penticton,” commented Head Coach Fred Harbinson.
“Nick has played an intricate part in our current success, and will be
an outstanding addition to the Mavericks D-core for the next four
years.”
Buchanan will join current Vees teammate, Bryce Gervais next fall in
Mankato to suit up for the Mavericks.
Minnesota State- Mankato plays in the Western Colligate Hockey
Association (WCHA) and has been a member since the fall of 1999; in
2003 The Mavericks made their first NCAA postseason tournament.
Buchanan becomes the fourteenth Vees player on the roster to secure an
NCAA Division I scholarship.
